Relaxing, My Way

Today I couldn’t come up with my own idea for a brain dump. Imagine that. Who can’t do a five minute brain dump after a whole week of STUFF happening? So, I’m borrowing Fadra’s prompt today about a detail describing a way I like to relax. Here I go with one of the ways–

When I want to relax, it usually involves a romantic comedy on TV. I’ve gotten into watching TV again. For many previous years I didn’t, and that’s a whole other brain dump. I must have been really relaxed over the Christmas holidays because I bombarded myself with watching the Hallmark  and Hallmark Movie channels and the Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Channels. They had so many cute Christmas themed shows and I enjoyed each and every one. I actually long for the romantic comedy now since Lifetime usually has movies along the lines of women’s fiction or drama and when I want to relax, I don’t want to have to figure out a crime or what will happen next. I only want to be entertained.

I’ll pour a glass of wine, or make some popcorn; sometimes both, or just have nothing but the movie and remote. If all else fails and I can’t find something I’m in the mood for, I can stick a DVD in the player and have at it with my own choice of movie, relax, take a deep breath, and be carried away with something that isn’t even close to my own reality. Escaping is what you might call my way of relaxing, but it helps and makes it easier to fall asleep with my heated blanket, and peaceful thoughts to chase away the nightmares.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.
  • Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
  • Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
  • Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.
  • Link up your post below.
  • Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

I think popcorn and a movie sounds like the right way to spend my Sunday night tonight. And a glass of wine :)

I’ve only recently rediscovered TV and I enjoy it in small doses. And yes, it is escapism but sometimes that’s what we need to relax.

  2. Hi, Fadra, So true. TV in small doses works for me except for the days I just NEED to veg. So glad you stopped by and commented

Romantic comedies sound like a plan. I haven’t really watched much Lifetime because the few times I have…I cry too much. I will have to check Hallmark out again. Have a wonderful week :)

  4. Hey, Helena, Thanks for reading. I know Lifetime has a lot of sad movies except for the holidays. I have to really be in a mood to turn in other times. Hallmark has a lot of family stuff, and the GOLDEN GIRLS! (My weakness.) I appreciate your comment.

  5. Now THIS is my kind of relaxation! I have actually gotten addicted to 30Rock here recently. When I come home from school, I usually treat myself to an episode… or 10.

  6. Since I got back to watching TV I find it very easy to become addicted to certain shows, but it steals my writing time and my willpower is weak sometimes. Glad you have your own favorite to relax with! Thank you for dropping by.

  7. I’ve never gotten into Lifetime movies – for one thing, I don’t have cable. I love Hollywood romantic comedies, but for whatever reason, I don’t watch made-for-TV ones.

  8. Rom coms are my guilty pleasure. Hubs has zero interest, but when I’ve been busy and need rest and relaxation, I love to sit in front of a fire, wine, Bailey’s or tea and watch something that amuses me, lifts me up, etc. I’m picky – I like ones with great actors and great stories, but some are really worth watching. And then I feel all relaxed and happy. I love angsty or action flicks too but that’s a different mood altogether. Not exactly relaxing!

These posts are making me want to put my feet up…and soon!

  9. Hi Mary, now that’s a wonderful way to relax, to enjoy some times for yourself. I would usually stack up on movies that I haven’t watch on DVD on the weekends when my son is over at his Dad and that’s my relaxing time.

  10. Hi! Thanks for commenting. Yes, my usual way to relax, but not necessarily my only way. It does take me away better than Calgon! Remember those commercials? Being retired, it makes it easy to slip into TV watching so I have to set limits on myself. Have a great week.
