Hi, Welcome to my blog and an excerpt from my new release Tristan’s Destiny, Bonus book #1.5.
Set-up: Our hero and heroine are returning from a trip. Tristan’s brother is picking them up from the airport. Tristan’s little girl is with his brother. While they were gone there was an issue with a horse…the reason for the “evil eye.”
“I had fun with Uncle Jase, Daddy. He gave me ice cream.”
“Of course he did,” said Tristan with a friendly chortle. He nudged his brother. “Let’s get the hell outta here.”
“Aw, Daddy, you cussed. I’m telling Grandma.”
Tristan held the door for Nora and she slid to the middle of the seat. “How about I just give you a dollar instead of putting it in the bank, Des?” He released her to the back where she hopped into her booster seat.
Destiny held out her hand for the money. “Alrighty.”
Tristan waited for her to buckle in, closed the door, and lifted their luggage into the bed of Jase’s truck. When he got inside he asked his brother, “How’s everything? The horses?” He turned back. Destiny got his evil eye. She held her teddy bear in front of her face, yet peeked around it with a smile. “We have to talk, little girl.”
Nora elbowed him in the ribs. “Be nice. You just got home.”
She got the look. “Hey, I’m back to being a cowboy, and I got work to do.”
“Like I said, it takes more than a cowboy hat to be a cowboy. I hate to tell you this but you’ve been one this whole time.”
“I’ll comment to that later, sweetheart.” Tristan pulled her into the crook of his arm. “Don’t make me kiss you like crazy right here, woman.”
Jase turned the volume up on the radio. He peeked around Nora. With a lowered voice, he said, “Do I have to tell you two to get a room? For cryin’ out loud! Save it till we get back to the Double Dutch, love birds.”
Destiny giggled in the back seat, repeating after her uncle. “Love birds!”
Thank you for reading the excerpt. So what’s this story about? Read on…but don’t forget to visit the other #BookHook participants below.
Author Note: This story takes place directly after Cowboy Boss and his Destiny ends. Contains spoilers regarding that book.
On the day they met in Cowboy Boss and his Destiny, rancher Tristan Carlson told Nora Trinity it was fate…
He fell hard and fast…
In this follow-up, Tristan and his young daughter Destiny totally give their hearts away to the woman with ginger-red hair—the woman they both love. However, a dreadful memory comes back to haunt him when a near-tragic incident occurs, leaving him to believe he and his child will have to suffer all over again.
She gave up trying to resist his sexy smile…
Nora’s chemistry mixes with his and that’s enough for her. The rancher and his little girl own her heart without even trying. Life with her new family is sweet. But due to an act of love, will the man she loves succumb to the forces of nature—at the time when she needs him the most?
Together, all they see is a happy future filled with sunny days. Although their days and nights are happy, fun, and bursting with passion, every day isn’t filled with sunshine. As Tristan and Nora embark on a new path filled with love and romance, their bond still needs to be strong enough to overcome obstacles. In this story, a man and his family vow to love without limits—to prevail—even though circumstances beyond their control attempt to prove them wrong.

I’ve already added and anticipated a NaNo novel for 2014, but my decision is about 95% final. Consider my decision a BIG question mark.
National Novel Writing Month or better known as NaNoWriMo (NaNo)
From the NaNoWriMo About Page Click for more info including FAQ.
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought fleetingly about writing a novel.
To NaNo or not to NaNo? This is my question of the month. Editing one book while writing another book fills my agenda for the rest of this year. This doesn’t include NaNo. I take that back because NaNoWriMo has been on my mind more than I care to think about. Is my muse betraying me by nudging [forcing] me to be consumed with it right now?
IF, and this is a big “IF” I do NaNoWriMo this year, I might have to be a Rebel. Yes, this counts and NaNo recognizes it.
I’ve been known to color outside of the lines.
But, there are some who don’t agree with being a REBEL. If writing 50K words to a novel in thirty days like everyone else, I see no difference. Of course we can’t count anything already written. Some of my close author friends don’t agree with being a Rebel, although no one has called me a cheater, in so many words.
This will be my fifth NaNoWriMo. How do I pass up a “five year” milestone?
- How about you? Will you be a NaNo participant this year? Have you ever participated?
- Have you heard of NaNoWriMo?
I ask this because even my local librarian never heard of it until I mentioned it to him. Not that he planned on doing anything about it. In my writers’ mind, I thought it would be a good idea to have a write-in there. Not so with him. He wanted to know how much it would cost them and basically, was the least bit interested in finding out. *Eye Roll*
In 2015, I plan on bringing another book into the Bull Rider Series and this book could be my NaNo project. The thing is, nothing is planned for this book, except in my head. (Well, a vague plan…um, maybe.)
On the other hand, I’m also writing the third book in the Double Dutch Ranch series, and readers are waiting for this book. See my dilemma?
Believe me—going into NaNo with no plans can suck. This coming from a pantster. A pantster who has learned to plot, if that makes sense.
In my own words:
- Plotter=Your story is planned out from beginning to end.
- Pantster=Sit down and write your little fingers to the bone by the seat of your pants. Better known as “just sit your butt down and write.”
- Mary=A little bit of each. Maybe 89% plotter these days. In the past I was 87% pantster. The more writing I do, I’ve discovered the more I have to plot. I’ve published three full length books this year with one more planned. Yes, plotting has helped.
I’m anxious to hear if you’re a plotter or pantster.
Plotting and planning can happen to creative souls in general I’d think. I take photos of whatever I see unless I’m looking for something in particular. My son photographs foot races when he isn’t participating. He goes out days before to scope out the trail/route, etc., and plans out where he will take photos, at what shutter speed, lighting, and whatever else he comes up with for the perfect shot. He’s a plotter and doesn’t realize it. (I took this image while walking along a river trail. Someone painted this beneath an overpass. The photo wasn’t planned, but there it was waiting. Having my camera with me was planned.) I digress…
- By the way, NaNoWriMo entails writing 50K words in thirty days, and boils done to 1,667 words a day. Some of my author friends write 5K a day or more.
Now, if only my spell checker would agree to the way I spell NaNoWriMo and Pantster.
Stay tuned for the final decision…
You’ve seen my cover and read excerpts for months now. I started this book on November 1, 2013 and Jase Carlson has taken me on a ride I’ve enjoyed. Yes, Heartbreak’s Reward is released.
Thanks for standing by my side even though you’re probably tired of seeing my Jase and Brenna standing on a book cover in front of a “damn big mountain.” (Brenna’s words.)
Instead of writing a post about my new release, I’ll send you right to the source–the book page. I have pages on both my website and here, so since you’re here… You can find links at the top of the page for all my books.
What’s Next On My Agenda?
- Book 1.5: Target date: November 2014.
- Book Three: Target date: Spring/Summer 2015.
- Book four, and possibly one more book planned in this series. Maybe the 5th one depends on who readers would like to see in number five. I already have an idea. The place in my brain where my muse lives is getting kind of crowded.
The Bull Rider Series:
Book #3 Christmas 2015
Whatever else comes up in between. There’s a dramatic romance/women’s fiction novel on the back burner begging to get finished.

What is this book about? Oh, I’m so glad you asked…
Jase made his first appearance in Cowboy Boss and his Destiny. He’s the oldest brother at the Double Dutch Ranch, and he has a story to tell.
- Tagline: Sometimes a wrong turn takes you to the right place.
Rancher Jase Carlson doesn’t understand the ache in the hollow of his chest, since his ex-wife ripped his heart out. She doesn’t follow the court rules where his children are concerned, making him even more pissed off. Harboring a bad attitude, he wishes he wasn’t a gentleman when he comes to the aid of a hot-headed, sexy blonde. He can’t allow her tight jeans and sweet smile to sway him, even after he’s coerced into spending time alone with her. If only he can remember that when he holds her in his arms.
Brenna Page has too many of her own issues to deal with at the moment. Not to mention being guardian to her rebellious sixteen-year-old sister, and both of them are living with painful memories. The last thing she needs is a grudge-filled cowboy interfering in her life, but his intense blue eyes and muscles-to-die-for, say something she’s never heard before.
- Set-up: Brenna and Jase have a few extra minutes before her sister returns.
Brenna nodded and went into the room ahead of him. This time his bed was made and the room was bright. Jase removed his boots and crawled into the middle of his bed, holding his arms open. She kicked her shoes off and lay beside him.
He pulled her close, tight up against his body and held her. She relaxed in his arms, yet, a part of her wanted to draw away. At least the shuddering was only on the inside. “You’re amazing, Jase…your touch, smell, everything about you. I can’t wait to know all about you.”
“Baby, you can’t wait? Come inside my body and see the torturous battle going on.”
“Mmm, I’ve fallen so hard for you.” She slipped her arm around his waist. “Please explain how this happened.”
“I wish I could.” He nuzzled his face against her hair. “Let me hold you and dream.”
Brenna whispered, “I want to be in your dream, doing things I’ve only imagined.”
“You’re in it. It’s all about you.” Jase lowered his voice. “It’s you and me making love in my dream. Join me for now in the dream world. See it in your mind’s eye first.”
She cuddled closer. “Describe it to me.”

Today I’m giving you a sneak peek into Hey, Cowboy, Bk 2. (Bull Rider Series) This book is releasing in July 2014. If you don’t know Velia and Caulder, you can meet them in Howdy, Ma’am, Bk 1.
Caulder is the cousin to Tristan, Jase, and Dane Carlson of the Double Dutch Ranch Series: Love at First Sight. He also makes his appearance in Cowboy Boss and his Destiny. He and Velia appear in Heartbreak’s Reward.
“You need to think it over.” He stood and walked to the doorway. “Where’s the damn doctor?”
She gave a subtle laugh. “Now you sound like my dad’s right hand man, Roy, when I was in the hospital.”
He turned back toward her. “Did you mention this incident to your father?”
“I haven’t mentioned it to anyone but you.” Velia pivoted and peered out the window at the dreary morn. Glancing over her shoulder, she asked, “Should I?”
“I don’t know.” Caulder came up from behind and hugged her. “Thanks for telling me about this. It’s not the kind of thing to keep from me.”
She faced him. “What do you think it’s about? Should we be alarmed?”
He pulled her against him and wrapped her tight in his arms. “I don’t know, babe.”
Interrupted by the nurse who had discharge papers in her hand, Caulder took a seat and Velia sat on the edge of the bed. The nurse gave instructions—also scheduling a follow-up appointment with his doctor, along with the CT scan. He had to take it easy with no athletic activities.
The nurse continued on, and after giving all the warning signs to look for, she signed the paper and had Caulder sign it, giving him a copy. Free to leave. Velia beamed with delight, wanting to lift him over her shoulder and run out of that place—roaring like a lioness—and carry him out. She grabbed his bag. He took it from her. “Let’s get the hell out of here.”
“Sì!” Glad to see Caulder’s smile when he looked at her, it changed to a frown as he got in the wheelchair to be wheeled out. She had a moment of empathy pass over her—sure that he worried about the future, his career, and their relationship.

Book Hooks! #MFRWhooks
Oh, what is a book hook? From the MFRW Authors Blog: Book Hooks is a weekly meme hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. It’s a chance each week to hook readers on your current WIP or any previously published book.
Italian class meets bull rider rowdy.
Set-up. From Chapter Two. Velia gave up her job as a travel photographer to relocate and begin a new life. Caulder needs a photographer to travel the pro bull riding circuit with him for a season. He offered her an opportunity she couldn’t refuse…
It was difficult being so far away from everything she loved. But here, she had Edward and Alice and her work. And now it seems she might have a cowboy to follow around. “A cowboy? I’m a city girl… What will I do with a cowboy?”
Then her thoughts drifted back to the cowboy who sauntered in like he owned Tucson. “I didn’t even get his name.” She slapped her palm against her forehead. “How come I didn’t ask his name?” It was scrawled across the flyer he tossed on the desk, but she didn’t pay any attention. She went to her laptop and typed in rodeo stars for the current year.
She found a slew of links. “How do I find him out of all these?” Clicking on images brought even more results. “Mm, che belli cowboys!” While browsing all the handsome guys, she examined the action photos and knew she could do as well or better. Wait. He said bull riding not rodeo. Again, her thoughts went back to his request—to travel with him for almost a year. She fanned herself with the newspaper. “Can my heart take so much manliness? For a whole year?”
Also available at Kobo, B&N and iBooks.
Bull rider Caulder McCutchen wants to start living again. But this year he has a good chance of winning the converted buckle, knowing he has to ride harder, go bigger, or go home. Winning consumes him, but it doesn’t take away the pain from a tremendous loss less than two years ago. On a whim, he hires a feisty photographer to travel the bull riding circuit with him for a season. A little extra publicity can’t hurt, and she’s easy on the eyes. When he finds himself passionately attracted to her, will this sassy little Italian photographer prove to be just what his claim to fame needs—or a disastrous distraction?
Velia Armano had the strength to walk away from an abusive husband. She moves from Chicago to Tucson, Arizona and opens her own photography studio. Six months into her well-ordered life alone, a hunky cowboy saunters in with his howdy, ma’am and flame blue eyes, offering a job any photographer would find hard to refuse. She accepts his offer, and discovers they both have their own obstacles to overcome. While trying to resist his heated embrace and gentle nature, she hopes to find the right answer before the season ends—to remain in her self-appointed exile, or give in to a “happily ever after.”
When the season ends, who wins the real prize?

Double Dutch Ranch Series:
Love at First Sight #2
Meet Jase and Brenna
Rancher Jase Carlson doesn’t understand the ache in the hollow of his chest, since his ex-wife ripped his heart out. To add more devastation to his life, she doesn’t follow the court rules where his kids are concerned. Harboring an attitude and a grudge, he accepts that life goes on. Months later, not much has changed—except now Jase is lonelier and even more pissed off. When he comes to the aid of a woman in distress, he’s sorry he was raised to be a gentleman. To make matters worse, he’s coerced into spending time alone with her. No matter how tight her jeans and sweet her smile, he insists this sexy blonde is not what his broken heart needs. But will he feel the same way when he remembers how good it feels to hold a woman in his arms?
In an attempt to save her rebellious teen sister from herself—as her guardian, Brenna Page leaves everything behind and takes a teaching job in Canyon Junction, Arizona—so they can both mend their hearts and start over. When she unexpectedly meets a hot-headed cowboy with intense blue eyes and muscles-to-die for, the first thing she wants to do is get away. Since she can’t seem to shake him, Brenna wonders if that same grudge-filled cowboy with an attitude is someone worth taking on. But still dealing with memories, and a sister who wants to go back home, the last thing she needs right now is a horse ranching cowboy interfering in her new life.
One wrong turn. Two broken families. Brought together by chance…and need.
